Nikki and Jacob Heller
Jacob has officially been in the hospital for two months. This past week he underwent back graft surgery, and today approximately 500 staples were removed. We are thankful to share that 89% of the grafts took successfully.
Doctors mentioned there may be a few small areas that could need patchwork, but they will reevaluate everything again next Monday.
Today was a very painful and exhausting day for Jacob after all of the work that was done. Moving forward, his arms will need to be suspended in the air for a few hours each day as part of the healing and recovery process.
Over the next few weeks, respite rates will be decreased and doctors will slowly begin weaning medications and sedation. Everything will depend on how Jacob responds as they continue reducing sedation.
He still has a very long road ahead. Progress with moving his arms is slow and extremely painful, but he continues to fight every single day.
All prayers, positive vibes, shares, and support are deeply appreciated by our family. Thank you all for continuing to stand beside Jacob through this journey. ❤️
