Update to Our 48-Hour Nepal-Tibet Flood Relief Fundraiser

To all the kind donors and supporters of our 48-hour Nepal-Tibet Flood Relief Fundraiser:

First and foremost, we sincerely thank each of you for your incredible generosity and support. We have been overwhelmed by how much compassion and solidarity you have shown in such a short period of time. On behalf of our friends and the flood-affected communities, thank you.

As of 10:20 p.m. ET 08/30/2026, we have raised $8,697.73. We are incredibly grateful. We are now working closely with our friend in Kathmandu to determine how these funds can be distributed as directly and effectively as possible to those most in need.

Our friend and others on the ground have told us that many organizations and volunteers are already distributing food and other basic necessities. While these supplies remain important, we are learning that some of the most urgent gaps now include short-term housing, continued access to education, communication, and support for children and families who have lost their entire households.

Our friend herself currently has no stable short-term place to stay. She has repeatedly expressed that her greatest concern is for the young children who have no one left in their household. We are working with her and others to identify those with the greatest immediate needs, including families and individuals without short-term housing.

There are also practical challenges. With no stable housing, many survivors have nowhere to safely store donated items, making it difficult for them to accept additional physical supplies until housing is addressed. We also learned that among families from our friend’s village, only about five currently have access to a mobile phone. Communication is therefore another immediate need, and we are exploring ways to help with access to phones.

Through our friend and network, we have identified two students currently enrolled at Tibetan schools in India whose families were impacted by the flood and who have received the tragic news of the loss of family members. It is our understanding that their schools are working to support them, and we are also ensuring that a portion of our fundraiser goes toward supporting these students.

We have additionally received information about young people affected by the disaster, ranging from approximately 1 to 20 years old, including children who have lost their families and homes. Because our 48-hour drive was primarily created to address immediate needs on the ground, we have connected this information with KIMA, which is specifically fundraising for children affected by the flood and working with contacts and officials on the ground. We will continue following what assistance these children receive from KIMA and other organizations. From what we are learning, many will likely need support far beyond this immediate emergency- particularly for education, stable housing, caregiving, and long-term well-being.

One reason we began this small drive was to provide support as directly as possible. We have heard from people on the ground that some larger aid distributions have faced logistical delays before reaching affected communities. We are therefore working carefully with our friend and trusted networks in Nepal and India to identify where our funds can fill gaps and reach people who need them most.

Our official 48-hour fundraising period has now ended. However, because closing the fundraiser requires us to contact the platform during business hours, the donation page may remain open until we are able to formally close it tomorrow.
