Updates, settling in and new needs identified

A Fresh Start Update ❤️

Thank you again to everyone who has supported this sweet mom and her 8-year-old son as they begin this new chapter. The response from our community has been incredibly generous, and because of your support, so many of their immediate needs have already been met.

When we first started this effort, the goal was simply to help them get moved and settled into a safe place with the basics they needed to begin again. I have personally covered many of the expenses upfront—including moving boxes and supplies, the moving truck rental, and purchases made before they arrived so they would have beds to sleep on, furniture and basic housewares waiting for them when they walked through the door.

I am now hoping to raise funds to help offset some of those expenses I personally covered, while also continuing to help with the new needs that have emerged as they settle into their home and rebuild their lives.

So much has already been purchased from the Amazon Wish List, and I am incredibly grateful to everyone who has contributed. They are now well stocked on paper goods, including paper towels and toilet paper, as well as toiletries and many of the everyday essentials. Those needs have been generously covered.

Now that the immediate necessities are largely taken care of, a few new needs have come to light that would make a meaningful difference in their day-to-day lives:

💡 Lighting & Home Updates
The new space has very dated light fixtures and can-light trims, and overall it feels quite dim. We would love to help fund some updated lighting and improved can lighting to make the home feel brighter, warmer and more like their own.

🎨 Fresh Paint
Unfortunately, the guest rooms in the rental came with purple walls. We would love to give his room a fresh coat of paint in a color that feels more appropriate for a 9-year-old boy and reflects his personality. A little paint can go a long way.  I quite vividly remember one of his first observations that he was hoping we could do something about the purple walls. Note taken!

🧺 Additional Pantry Storage
The kitchen has limited pantry storage, so we'd also like to add some additional pantry cabinets in the breakfast room. This would provide much-needed space for groceries and everyday kitchen essentials and make the home more functional for them. (See amazon Wish list)

🧒 After-School Childcare
As she works to support herself and her son, she needs help with after-school care. Funding a mother's helper or similar childcare would give her peace of mind while she is working and help provide her son with a safe, consistent routine after school. Someone to help with snack and homework and bridge the end of school to end of work day hours.

🌿 Lawn Care
She is now responsible for maintaining the property and needs to add lawn care to her monthly expenses. Helping with this recurring cost would take one more responsibility off her plate as she gets back on her feet.

🛏️ A Guest Bed for Family
One of her hopes is to have a comfortable place for her mom or other family members to stay overnight. This is especially important when she has to travel for work, giving her the reassurance of having family nearby to help with her son. (See Amazon Wishlist)

🎂 His 9th Birthday — October 31st
And then there is something a little more fun—but just as important. ❤️ Her sweet boys 9th birthday is coming up on October 31st. After everything he and his mom have been through, we'd love to help make his birthday feel special and give him something to look forward to. Contributions could help with a birthday gift, decorations, a cake, or a fun birthday experience that makes the day all about celebrating him.

The Wish List has already helped provide so many of the basics they needed, and we are incredibly grateful. At this point, paper towels, toilet paper, toiletries and many other basic household essentials are already covered, so monetary donations are especially helpful for the larger needs and ongoing expenses.
