2/27 Update: Morgan continues to make progress. The goal is to slowly wean his vent settings for eventual extubation (which could be as early as a week out from today). On Tuesday, we began the process of proning (positioning him on his stomach for 16 hours at a time to allow for his lungs to better be able to drain any mucous or fluid as he can't cough while sedated/on paralytics), which has really helped us be able to wean his ventilator settings down. Today the team is doing a bronchoscopy to see what all is in his lungs and clean them out (if it's mostly inflamation or if it's mucous and gunk they can suction out). The weaning process feels like a little bit of a roller coaster, as at times we make a few weans and then Morgan shows us we went a bit too fast and they have to be bumped back up. The team prepped me for this and assures me this is normal. The PICU team is so pleased with his progress and has been amazing!
I (Mom) am hanging in there and getting into a semblance of a routine, as the hospital will be our home for a while. I am so grateful for all of your kind messages, gifts and donations! We are feeling all of the love and it gives us the strength to keep going. Thank you. <3
