25 years of God's faithfulness to us! In spite of our failings. In the midst of our selfishness. His steadfast love has never wavered. Today may not look like any kind of "normal" 25th anniversary celebration, but we are still celebrating in our own quiet way, thanking God for preserving Mike's life so we can continue to reflect His faithfulness to others around us. Like many of you, we have had a rocky roller coaster ride over the last couple of decades, and but for God's grace to us, would most likely not have survived it with an intact marriage. God has shown grace where it wasn't merited and mercy where it wasn't deserved. We are thankful for that.
We spent the morning driving up north for an appointment with an ophthalmologist/surgeon. She did some evaluations and ultrasounds on his eyes. Everything is mostly as expected. His right eye continues to stay healthy. The inflammation and irritation in his left eye is very slowly decreasing but there is still bleeding in his eye that will take more time to stop. He still has much internal swelling and damage that continue to make it difficult for him to stay alert and attentive for more than a couple hours at a time, but that should improve with time. She can't say what exactly his left eye will end up like as far as appearance and pain and comfort, as that could continue to change substantially over the next year, so she gave us different options to consider in the future. We will have at least a couple more follow-up appointments.
At some point in the future (maybe a month, maybe 3 months), Mike may start learning to drive with one eye. It's legal and people do it. It just takes practice to learn to turn your head more. I may feel like I'm teaching my children to drive again, turning my head whenever they turn or change lanes. =)
We were again blessed to be in church yesterday to dig into 1 Peter and give and receive lots of hugs. We have some friends who are going through a trying time right now, and I was reflecting on what a blessing and privilege it is to be able to pray for one another, lifting each other's needs up to the Lord. I went back and reviewed my notes from a previous sermon on James 5:13-20, thinking about how integral prayer is to our faith. A main thought from our pastor was, "Real faith expresses itself through real prayer in every season of life." It's sad that it takes a tragedy to wake me up to the blessedness of a community of believers praying for each other, but sometimes God takes us into the valleys to get our attention, and it usually works.

- That Mike would have patience with the healing process and stay encouraged with little steps of progress.
- That his general doctor appointment and ENT appointments on Friday would give us insight into his recovery, what to expect, and next steps we can take.
- That our children would stay encouraged and know how loved they are in the midst of this upheaval in our lives.
