Merritt is still vomiting. We are on day 19, and I am tired. We have added some more drugs in hopes it helps, but we are still not completely sure why this is happening.
Yesterday was a particularly rough/slightly funny day....so enjoy this "day in the life" update :)
This year is my first year working part time as a teacher. When I finish, I usually run Merritt over to the children's hospital which has a child care program for medically complex kids. Everything was going normal. I dropped him off, and I started heading to the Honda dealership for my van appointment (I just needed oil and brake fluid). When I got there, they let me know that my van actually had a recall so they needed to keep it for about 3 hours. I was not expecting this, and I needed to pick up the kids in about 2 hours, so I had them Lyft me back to Robby so we could go grab the kids together in his car. Jeremy had an A cappella gig up in the mountains yesterday so we were gonna be flying solo.
We headed out to grab the two younger kids, and I had a strict timeline of getting back to the house by 5 pm because Merritt had two different therapies. We were almost all the way there, when they also called and said my car was ready and we had to pick it up by 5:30 (haha). So, we rushed home (made it with 5 minutes to spare). Robby ran out and unloaded the two younger kids. I jumped in the car, and dashed over to the elementary school to get Milo. I also ordered another Lyft for Robby to go back and grab my van while I did therapy with Merritt. While I was at Milo's school, I saw the two therapists arrive on my ring camera. I thought, "Perfect, now they can watch the kids while Robby hops in the Lyft." Turns out that is not allowed. So Robby entertained a Lyft driver until I could make it back and officially switch him out.
I put my two older kids on a screen (mom win) while I did therapy with Merritt. We had finished reading one book, and we were about to work on some floor exercises, when our PT noticed Merritt smelled like poop. "Nice! Let me change him," I said to both of them. Little did I know that when I opened those clothes I was going to encounter the biggest poopocalypse of my entire life. Poop everywhere. It is at least an inch and a half thick and running up the majority of his body on both sides. I started with wipes, but to no avail. On a positive note, I was able to collect a stool sample that the ER wanted me to collect!
After maybe 5 minutes of trying to clean him up, my PT said we might just need to give him a bath. I asked if they were up to the challenge, because I still can't lift Merritt ever since I dislocated my shoulder (another crazy story if you don't know). Therapists are saints, as mentioned before, and therefore, we hit the bath tub and got Merritt all cleaned up.
After the bath, the hour of therapy time was up, and so they helped me get him dressed and then left. I then realized I needed to take this stool sample to the hospital so that it didn't sit out too long. Luckily Robby was about 10 minutes away with the van. I kissed my older two on the head, who have now been watching TV for approximately 3 hours (oops?!), and we swapped out when he arrived. He handled the rest of the Merritt bedtime procedure.... drugs, patting his chest, all the lotions and creams, a tube feeding etc. I got to the ER and waited like 30 minutes because the ordering doctor had never created a label so they had to resubmit the order and then rush the poop to the lab.
I drove the 20 minutes back to the house....and then helped get the older two to bed. It was now approximately 8:30-9ish at night when I finally collapsed on the couch and was like WTF just happened.
PHEW. WHAT A DAY.
Final score:
Mom vs Poopy Diaper: 0-1 (SERIOUSLY IT WAS MASSIVE)
Mom vs Screen Time: 0-1 (About five hours of screen time to be exact bahaha).
Mom vs Couch: 0-1 (Passed out hard).
