They were new to me too, and I am still learning a lot.
Dezawa Muse cells are a type of stem cell that can locate damage and help repair it on their own. They turn into the cells that the brain needs, like neurons and support cells, and they help repair damaged areas. These cells matter for kids with CP and brain malformations/injuries because with these, the damage is neurological. These cells can find damaged tissues, reduce inflammation and support regeneration in the brain.
That is something that most therapies can’t do. What makes them so different is that they are naturally non-tumor forming, they don’t require genetic modification, and they have a unique ability to survive in harsh/damaged environments. That is huge when you are talking about someone like Merritt! We are talking about potential improvements in muscle tone, motor function, cognitive awareness, and overall quality of life. It isn’t magic, and it isn’t a cure. But it is one of the most promising regenerative options out there right now.
Some also ask me why these stem cells aren't in our country yet. Unfortunately, it can take 10-15 years to have science like this become a well established practice, and this is time that Merritt simply doesn’t have. Our hope is to take Merritt to Mexico soon so that he can get this life changing treatment.
