Merida was taught from a young age that she is a “perfect imperfection,” and this makes her beautifully unique in how she lives each day. She greets others with joy, but often feels disappointed when children don’t respond—some hide, others just stare. We reassure her that she’s done nothing wrong; they simply don’t yet understand her differences. As parents, we model equality by treating all children the same, regardless of disability, and Merida has embraced this—she sees no differences, only equals.
