But first- gratitude. Love. Progress. Jesus.
I just can’t express how grateful I am for the continued support through this journey! ❤️ I may not know his plan- but I trust in him.
I believe my last update shared that my Petscan from halfway showed a mixed response. A lot of the cancer is shrinking from the original scan, but some new spots. They wanted to biopsy a new spot which I had done on Monday (3/9). Nick was sweet enough to baby sit me through that. The doctor said he couldn’t get the spot outside of my kidney as it was really deep and close to vein- so he got some samples from a lesion on my liver. I did get some preliminary results from that- it is breast cancer- estrogen positive- low progesterone positive and needing more testing to see if it is HER2 positive or not. The HER2 part will really help determine where we go from here with treatment. Luckily, this biopsy I was in less pain then the one I had originally. Yay!
Duke- I really am grateful to have Dr. Bansil here for a second opinion- she is really aggressive and only treats breast cancer patients. She reviewed my half way scan and has determined I get another scan when I finish round 6 of chemo- if the scan shows shrinkage but some new growth- they will continue my current chemo two more rounds. If the scan shows all shrinkage, then I will go on Maintence drugs and if the scan shows significant new growth- then they will change the chemo regiment all together and I will start over with a new chemo drug. We have to see what this cancer doesn’t like! She also recommended I get scans every 3-4 weeks- scan anxiety here we come! Haha. We also talked about removing my ovaries to rid of those estrogen makers.
I am so happy to be able to give back to the breast cancer world- I am honored to be the guest speaker at the Power of Pink lunch in October and am helping organize the Make Moves against breast cancer 5k April 25th. Check out my team- Megan’s Ta Ta Trotters! It really fills my cup to give back. These are on my Facebook page if your interested in helping.
Round 6 of chemo is March 24 and Nick will go to change my cold caps every 20 minutes for 6 hours! I get to ‘ring’ the bell but may be back depending on the scan.
Everett is finally cast free and went back to swim class this week! Yay! He is loving this warm weather and we can’t wait to go to Charlotte next weekend to support my niece, Marisa in her dance competition.
Thank you for your meals, love, support, prayers, and reaching out! Chemo wipes me out but the love I feel- lifts me up!
Much love,
Megan
