Hello to everyone out there cheering on Ben!
Ben had two surgeries this week that help move him toward getting back on his feet. He had his left foot worked on and they decided to fix the bulging ulnar fracture that had started to "move" a bit in his right arm. The clock has started and he'll be working toward bearing weight on his legs in about 6 weeks. He has lots of new hardware and this guy will be very complicated when going through airport security in the future. One of the medical team members told us that they had NEVER seen anyone with more broken bones in their entire career.
But you know what is not broken? Ben's fortitude and positive outlook! He remains so thankful for the fantastic care he's receiving and the expertise of the care team here. He will remain in in-patient rehabilitation for the next few weeks, working to strengthen his core and get his muscles engaged again.
Ben still isn't up to many visitors, but the few folks we have seen have been a huge boost to his morale. I foresee setting up a visitors' schedule in the not-so-distant-future for him.
I cannot express how uplifted we feel by all of your encouragement, kindness, generosity and thoughtfulness. Our family feels so wrapped in friendship and love.
Thank you so much for caring enough to check-in and know that we carry you in our hearts during our days at the hospital. We can't wait to get back to life with you all!
