It has been another good day. I woke up this morning to the surgical team stepping into the room to check on Mason. This is the team that will follow him for the appendicitis. The surgeon assured me that because the appendicitis was found basically on accident on the CT scan, they found it really early and it is completely acceptable to treat it with medications at this time, especially while Mason's white blood cell counts and platelets continue to recover. We are to watch for worsening abdominal pain, fever, nausea or lack of appetite- all of which could be signs that they need to move forward with surgery sooner than later.

Mason has none of those symptoms at this time. He was in a great mood today, and managed to eat pancakes and eggs for breakfast (I'm going to have to seriously up my cooking game at home if he still has these cravings when we get there- Pop-tarts and Captain Crunch might not cut it), chicken strips and a milkshake for lunch, then buffalo chicken strips and chocolate cake for dinner.

We spent the day watching the men's USA basketball game, playing games (we were warned that he might get chemo brain and be a little fuzzy, but he is really enjoying Bananagrams and beat me twice) and Fortnite. That's about it for the day- pretty uneventful (which we are totally fine with!).

We are closing out day #65 in the hospital. That's a lot of days. While I have been able to go and spend a few days at home each week, Mason has been here without interruption. He's a total champ- cracking jokes with everyone and making the best of it. When the cleaning tech came in this morning to mop the floors, she told Mason that she was in the cafeteria when we went down for lunch with his brothers on Friday, and in her words "I told my co-worker that I thought it was you- but the last time I was in your room you were too weak to get out of bed. We were so excited to see you up walking, and you lit up the room. You had a swagger and your skin was glowing." I think she made him blush, but she was also completely right. I also love how much all of the staff here loves these kids.

Please join us in praying that his blood work continues to look good tomorrow, that the appendicitis continues to be well managed through antibiotics alone, and that at some point in the next few days we get to break this kid outta here- even if it's only for a few days at home.
