We celebrated our Sleeping Beauty’s 4th birthday last week. The nurses decorated her door with a birthday wish, and her room was festive with balloons and pictures of family and friends.

Mackenzie’s lung recovery is taking longer than anticipated, and she remains sedated on breathing support. We expect this intensive care process to continue for a few weeks, followed by a rehabilitation period in the hospital.

In better news, we received confirmation from advanced testing that Mackenzie is officially in a deep remission from this leukemia relapse.  This allows her more time to heal before continuing her treatments.  As we’ve learned, this test does not mean she is 100% cured, although it does set her up well for the next treatment phase once her lungs have fully recovered.

We again express our appreciation for all of the generous and immensely helpful support this “Team Mackenzie” community has provided. While Mackenzie is experiencing challenging moments on this journey, we are thankful for her progress and hope for more healing in the coming weeks.
