It's not cheap to save a kids life.

I always knew it wasn't cheap to cure someone of cancer, but holy shit, this is a lot.

That is assuming the insurance company decides to cover all of this - and one of the worst parts of the whole thing is that they can, at any time, for any or no reason at all, just decide not to and then we're stuck with it.

The two bills pictured don't include:
  • The $6500 for the initial diagnostics prior to surgery
  • The $14,500 for the surgery to put in his injection port
  • $800-1000/visit for oncologists, neurologist, audiologist, neurosurgeons, etc.
  • Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy ($180/session), once a week each
  • Proton Radiation Therapy at $6700 PER DAY - for 30 days of treatment - $201,000
  • Chemotherapy at $12,000/mo for 9 months - $108,000
  • Weekly Neuro-oncology visits ($749.44 + $188.87 for labs - $48,792 for the next year)

All in, from what I can tell, this is going to be somewhere in the neighborhood of $750,000, assuming nothing goes wrong.

We are very fortunate to have health insurance, but with deductibles, and co-insurance, and out of pocket maximums, we're looking at at least $40,000 between now and this time next year.

...Assuming the insurance companies do the right thing...
