Mack Lutz
Mack woke up yesterday morning to a pillow covered in hair.
He tried to eat breakfast and the hair got in his mouth.
His keyboard was covered in it within minutes of opening his laptop.
He felt completely out of control and at the mercy of this thing that had been thrust upon him without his input or consent. The feeling of helplessness was coloring everything about his experience.
When I (dad) got the text that he wanted his hair gone and he wanted it gone NOW, we (me and Crystal) were already in the car and immediately changed course to have an impromptu buzz party!
We set a chair in the bathroom and the look on Mack's face as I made the first pass with the trimmer broke my heart. He looked broken. When I was done and he took a first look at himself in the mirror, tears streamed down his face. But then something started to change.
He looked again.
And again.
And started to smile. He was in control again. This was a choice he made and then communicated what he wanted and made it happen.
It also helped when Chris and I buzzed our heads in solidarity. We were all in it together.

In other news:
- Macky started school this week and is thoroughly enjoying it!
- We've found what feels like the right combination of meds to control his nausea
- He has maintained his weight!
- We're done with the first section of Radiation (starting today, the radiation will target the specific area of the brain where the tumor was, rather than his whole brain and spine)

Keep finding things you can control. And smile often. So handsome.
