Lorrie's Journey
Hello to all that are following! Hope you are doing well.
My kidney labs have come back and remain stable at stage 4. I am very grateful for that and am now waiting to hear when I can begin month 2 of Peptide Therapy. Many ask if I feel or notice any improvement. I was told it could take anywhere from 5 weeks to 6 months before I notice any change. Physically I still feel the discomfort of the mass in my tailbone area. So I'm pressing on being hopeful, trusting God and the process.
Picking back up where I last left off on my kidney history.
I continued on with my life as I knew it. Then at the age of 20 I was told that my wisdom teeth were needing to be removed and hospitalization was encouraged. The hospital's preliminary blood work revealed there was an issue with my renal system that warranted further looking into. While in the hospital awaiting my wisdom teeth extraction, a urologist came in, introduced himself to me and said that I had a plumbing problem that needed further looking into. He said, "In 3 weeks when the swelling subsides from your wisdom teeth surgery, I want you to come by my office so that we can do further testing."
The testing revealed that I had bilateral ureteral reflux going on and from my past medical history it was likely congenital. Both kidneys/ureters were affected just as my younger sister's were. She had her bilateral ureteral reimplantation, among other renal issues, corrected as a toddler and I had mine at the age of 20.
I was amazed and delighted that my plumbing issue was now working so well. Life was good and I had a life awaiting to be lived!
One of the parameters on a renal lab that one looks at to determine the "stage" of your kidney function is called the GFR (glomerular filtration rate). Mine at this time was a stage 2 and there were no concerns from the doctor.
