Last month, I went to Stanford for alllll the checkups and let's just say, it started another roller coaster I wasn't expecting.
Thankfully, my breast MRI and cardiac stress test were both clear!!! I was surprised they had concerns about my heart so that was actually the test I was most nervous about. That said, my chest CT revealed that I actually don't have Thoracic Outlet Syndrome as we suspected. Instead, it showed a node on my lung that is not cancerous but could be some damage from radiation. It also revealed that I fractured 3 ribs at some point! I suspect it happened at the ranch last year but thought I had just pulled a muscle. I've been in so.much.pain throughout this experience that my tolerance is off the charts, but finding out I was charging through life with broken bones on top of everything else is ridiculous.
That said, I have osteopenia from chemo and estrogen blockers so I didn't necessarily think it was something to be concerned about until my oncologist decided she wanted a PET scan to make sure the cancer hadn't returned and metastasized to my bones. Knowing that she doesn't use PET scans for routine monitoring because they are so anxiety producing, I was panicked that she felt the need to order one now. On top of that, there was a delay with the medical records so I had to wait a week for the results, which was brutal but I finally received them yesterday...
HALLELUJAH, I'M STILL CANCER FREE and there is NO EVIDENCE OF DISEASE IN MY BODY!!!
There are no words for the gratitude and relief I'm feeling. I never had a PET scan after treatment and there was always a little part of me that doubted my surgical margins so I never truly felt like the cancer was gone...but now I do. I feel like I can finally breathe and some of the weight of cancer has finally lifted knowing that my body is free of it. Forever, if I have anything to say about it.
I'm also excited to share that I've been chosen as the recipient of a Helping One Woman fundraiser on 5/14/25 to help us try to pay off my looming medical bills! I'd love for you to attend but even if you're not local to SLO, you can still contribute with donations and / or auction items. I've attached the relevant links but please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you again for all the support that has helped me get to this place. I'm eternally grateful and am already doing my best to pay it forward whenever I can.
With love and gratitude,
Lindsay Joy
