I know it's been a while since I've posted an update so I have a lot to tell you. For some reason, I feel more vulnerable sharing my experience as time goes on but since you've been so supportive, I want to keep you in the loop even if it's uncomfortable.

I'm very excited to say, I have a surgery date for phase 1 of my breast reconstruction! I’m doing a DIEP flap, which is essentially a tummy tuck where they use the fat to reconstruct my breast naturally. I’ll be in the hospital for at least 3 nights and recovery is 8 weeks or so, starting with a walker. It's been rescheduled a few times but it looks like it's finally happening April 17th, just shy of my 1-year mastectomy anniversary. Assuming all goes smoothly with the transfer, I'll need another revision surgery and fat grafting to smooth things out; hopefully phase 2 will happen sometime this Summer or Fall.

I've also started a couple of new medications that I've been adjusting to. One is an infusion to help with my osteopenia and also prevent relapse in my bones. Being hooked up to the beeping machines and back in the same room where I received chemo is always super triggering so I'm glad I only have to do it every 6 months. Otherwise, the nurses have been pretty accommodating and usually take me to an exam room for my monthly hormone suppression injections so I'm very grateful for that too. The other meds are for my mental health because my mind has become a dark, scary place these days. Depression and anxiety usually accompany a cancer diagnosis but the toxicity of chemo really messes with your brain too so I finally asked for some help. So far, it's turning down the noise a little and we'll reassess soon.

Otherwise, I've still been navigating a lot of other frustrating symptoms like insomnia, constant hot flashes, and debilitating joint and nerve pain in my arms and legs. While they're common side effects of my hormone therapy, apparently I'm on the severe end of the spectrum and right now, there's still many days when I can barely leave the couch. Because of that and upcoming surgery, I haven't been very active since I need as much fat as possible for the procedure but after I'm back on my feet, I hope things will improve once I find a better rhythm with diet and exercise.

Despite thankfully having Cal Cobra insurance coverage, the premium increased drastically and our deductible started over in January. We were already in employment limbo when I was diagnosed and given everything I've shared, it’s been nearly impossible for either of us to find permanent work right now. In addition to all the helpful donations we’ve received over the past year (thank you, thank you, thank you), both Brandon and I have been doing some small side jobs to help us get by. But naturally, it’s been additional and unnecessary stress that we want to minimize as much as possible until we can both work regularly again.

Moving forward, I set up a new fundraising site at that allows you to donate to specific funds, roundup to cover processing fees, and volunteer your help all in one place (however, if you prefer the GoFundMe is also still active too). I also organized up my Amazon wishlist so it’s current with needs and wants for this upcoming surgery.

Ways you can continue to help:

- Sign up to help with meals.

- Sign up to pitch in around the house.

- Sign up to call or visit.

- Send a care package from the Amazon wishlist: www.amazon.com/registries/gl/guest-view/1XXIS31AQWS9Z

- Buy something from our shops so we can earn income and reduce our massive inventories: www.thejoyfuljewelrybox.etsy.com and / or www.ebay.com/str/btizzlzcardzncomicz

- Shop my Amazon storefront for all my cancer and grief recommendations. If you know anyone else who is navigating a diagnosis or grieving the loss of a loved one, it’s full of ideas to help show your support (and I earn a small commission on purchases at no extra cost to you). I’m still organizing the categories for ease of use but I'm always updating it with new suggestions: www.amazon.com/shop/thejoyfuljewelrybox

- Pray for my continued remission and emotional and physical healing.

I know I haven't been my best self through this experience but I'm no less grateful for all the help and support you've given us along the way. Thanks for hanging in there with me.

Lots of love,
Lindsay Joy
