This month is Spina Bifida Awareness Month.
Spina Bifida is when a baby's spine doesn't form right. There are three types of Spina Bifida. First is Occulta. It is hidden and usually doesn't cause problems. The second is Meningocele (meh-NING-guh-seel). A big word for when a small sac comes out of the spine. Finally, there is Myelomeningocele (my-lo-men-IN-go-seel). This is the most serious kind. The spine and nerves are outside of the body.
Lian has the hardest kind. But he is amazing! He moves his legs and does things doctors said he couldn't do. Our story shows that Spina Bifida can’t stop us. Can't wait to see all the amazing things he'll accomplish. Thank you for taking your time to read about Lian's diagnosis and bringing awareness. 💛 Here is Lian at his first splash pad he had so much fun.
