Hi all,
I got a great 4 hours of sleep last night in the ICU, brushed my teeth and got my Starbucks and feel like a new woman, bright and cheery at the moment. (It doesn't take much right now- the bar is low). Dad had a good night and start to the day. Here are the medical highlights with a few details for our doctor friends:
I got a great 4 hours of sleep last night in the ICU, brushed my teeth and got my Starbucks and feel like a new woman, bright and cheery at the moment. (It doesn't take much right now- the bar is low). Dad had a good night and start to the day. Here are the medical highlights with a few details for our doctor friends:
- Weaned off oxygen slowly overnight, and his O2 sat is great.
- White count is dropping.
- Was very alert for much of yesterday with his charming sense of humor still clearly intact.
- Just had PT/OT team come in, and they put him in a big fancy hammock and got him swinging in the air like a circus star and then sitting up. He did great with moving his legs and even helping a bit with sitting himself up.
- Speech pathology is here right now assessing his ability to swallow (they don't want him to aspirate). They are going to do an endoscopy swallowing test this afternoon to better assess what his limitations are and what kind of speech therapy course he might need to eat and drink safely. She gave him some ice chips, and he was thrilled and did well with them.
- Just brought him a special Kreg bed that will help with pressure redistribution and to help him be in other positions.
I love the staff here so much I might want to make a career change and work with them (not really, but they are so impressive and kind).
We will keep you posted, and just remember we DEEPLY appreciate all the love, but some times get very, very demanding of our attention and energy, and we're helping with his needs quit often.
