Exhaustion. That’s the overall feeling post appointment today. Honestly, overall everything looks pretty good. But remember that pretty good is all relative. Pretty good means we’ve taken steps away from seeing some horrific things on our baby girl.
Both of her arms are on the way to healing. They removed the dressings and scrubbed off all the scabs and dead skin again. The graft on her right hand is going to need some attention as part of it is peeling upwards but they said today was not the day to address it.
Leah is extremely reactive to the care team and there were so many people in and out during the appointment. The PA, the nurses, the OT, the PT, child life and the psychologist. It was a revolving door and Leah HATES them all and we try to convince them to not take it personally—- it’s just Leah and of course they don’t—- cause they’re professionals. But Leah doesn’t make it easy for them. They like to remind us that her fighter spirit is what is going to help her recover.
They also chose not to measure Leah for her new fashion accessories. At her next appointment they will measure her for the sleeves, gloves and a sock that she will have to wear 23 out of 24 hours a day. These will help compress her scars and will have silicon in some places that will help all the grafting and scars to remain pliable and will help with any adhesions. The goal is to keep all of the tissues soft.
Leah was having a reaction to the Tegaderm dressings that were being used on her legs so she now has blisters all around her wound sites on her butt and legs. Our girlie has some very sensitive skin so we did warn the care team. They think that reaction is probably causing her more pain than the wound sites at this point. They removed all the tegaderm and we will just keep using the clean gauze and ace bandages in hopes that the blistering will go away.
Leah’s next appointment will be Monday. She will start with PT and get measured for her new accessories and play in the rehab room again. They will do the cutting on her peeling grafting sites, See the OT for stretching, See the psych for emotional rehab, and get all wounds dressed again.
5 hours later on the way home we rounded out the afternoon with a visit to the pediatrician for Josiah’s 3rd antibiotic shot.
And now we recover.

Ways to pray:
- Continued miraculous healing for our sweet girl. That these scars will continue to heal and be as minimal as possible. That the blisters will go away and the wound sites will heal over.
- Baths- we have to start daily baths and scrubs at home. She hated bath time before and has only experienced the horrific dressing change bathings at the hospital since the accident. Please pray peace over her during these times.
- Dressing changes start daily at home. Please pray calmness over her during this time too.
- Play therapy- we are getting creative! A special thanks to our Amazon supporters.
They continue to be impressed by her movement. Her dressings are less bulky now and we’ve got to get her stretching and moving. The more we can do it through play the less stressful it is! Leah crawled through her new tunnel with Josiah last night and the care team was super impressed by her video. Pray for lots of fun pain free play!
