After 4 and half months on medical leave/summer break, I return back to work tomorrow for a new school year. I am not out of the woods yet; I still have my final chemo on September 2nd and reconstruction surgery in December, but it will be nice to get back to a routine. I'm looking forward to catching up with coworkers, setting up my classroom, and meeting my new bunch of second graders. Also excited to see all my past students as well of course!
The last few weeks have been filled with HAIR dilemmas and solutions. I lost much more hair than expected with the cold capping, and was having a very hard time seeing more and more fall out each day. Last Sunday, I took the plunge and decided to get a buzz cut. It was extremely emotional sitting in the barber's chair, but it was also super liberating. I felt so much better immediately! I also introduced my "Facebook" world to a wig about two weeks ago, but that wig didn't end up working out. It was too big, too dark, and overall uncomfortable. Luckily, I found an awesome wig shop in Baltimore and got a new wig today that is much more similar to my old hair. See picture of my new buzz cut and wig above (or below- not sure how it shows up!)
I want to send a HUGE thank you to everyone who donated to this Support Now campaign. I used much of this money for meals over the last several months and my new wig. Dani and I appreciate it from the bottom of our hearts. I wouldn't have been able to stay so positive and upbeat throughout this journey without the amazing support I received from near and far!
One more chemo to go and a brand new school year; I got this!!!
