After an emergency trip to Children’s ER this morning, Joy has been admitted to an inpatient room for the night. She stopped eating all together yesterday afternoon- screaming in complete and utter terror if I tried to offer her a bottle. She persisted with this behavior this morning so after a frantic call to her pediatrician’s on-call nurse, we made the trip to Dallas. She was otherwise her normal self throughout it all until about 30 minutes after we arrived at the ER when she started showing effects of dehydration. It’s a good thing we got here when we did. Joy has been on IV fluids ever since. 

What we suspect is the culprit- although we won’t be able to confirm for the next day or two- is that she is having residual affects of the extreme constipation she experienced this past week as a result of switching full time to her new pediatric formula. We were able to solve her constipation issues (at least partially) on Friday but x-rays today show she’s still backed up. 

Joy had to get an NG tube placed (it broke my heart and the sight of it and all the relevant supplies triggered an episode in me that resulted in a complete emotional meltdown and a lot of concern for my well-being from the kind nurses here. Maybe I DO need to look into therapy) for a liquid of some kind that’s supposed to clear out her system entirely overnight in hopes that her hunger / appetite comes back afterwards. We will cross our fingers and pray! I brought enough milk/formula for only a day’s worth of feeds as I was anticipating just a long day in the ER, not an admission. It works out that they didn’t try feeding her today so everything is saved for tomorrow, but I didn’t bring any of my own things with me so I’m toughing it out tonight. Grateful to the nurse staff who found a toothbrush and toothpaste for me to use 😅
