When I tell you the Lord is in the details…

All day we’ve been waiting for the call that a room opened up on the regular hospital floor for Joy to be moved to. Just before 5pm we STILL hadn’t heard anything so our nurse went to make a call to check on it again since we should’ve heard something by then. In the call room she noticed Joy’s heart rate on the monitor was reading 360 (for the non-medical people, her “I’m frustrated” HR is about 180 in comparison). Thinking it was a faulty read on the leads, she grabbed new ones and put them on. The new leads still read in the mid 300s and Joy was now pale and clammy. In an instant, a crash team of about 20 people descended into our room and everything that followed was a blur.

She was having what’s called a Supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) episode, which is when the heart beats unusually fast due to faulty electrical signals in the heart. They gave her a medicine to slow her heart which could have stopped it all together so the team was fully prepared to do CPR with shock paddles at the ready. Luckily she responded well to it and that wasn’t necessary.

Cardiology is running some tests to see if this is something Joy was pre-disposed to and what the odds are of this happening again.

I am thanking the Lord first and foremost that Joy is okay and stable now. And I’m also thanking Him that we were still in the PICU when it happened because of how quickly everyone was able to respond. I don’t want to think about what could’ve happened if a regular floor room had opened up for us when it was supposed to.

So yeah, we are definitely staying in PICU instead of moving to the floor, and we certainly aren’t being discharged tomorrow. And here I was thinking I was going to have a boring update for this evening… 🙃

Thank you all for the prayers ❤️
