Joy Brown and Family
Yesterday we got preliminary scans and measurements done for Joy’s head-shaping helmet. She’ll have the Starlight Pro, which is a clear helmet designed specifically for babies who undergo her type of surgery. At the appointment we reviewed the results of her scan and got to see a clear diagram of the asymmetry of her head. The surgery + helmet therapy combined will help shape her head to become more symmetrical, and to my surprise, we learned that it should ALSO help fix the conditions in her eyes (her left eye appears noticeably larger than her right one and she has strabismus in her left eye as well). While I’m obviously not excited about Joy undergoing surgery, I am very eager to see these end results.
Helmet delivery will be 11/22 and it’s expected she’ll have it for a year. You better believe I’m already finding Thanksgiving decals to decorate her helmet with 😂
This week we didn’t have our regularly scheduled appointment at Children’s for a weight check but we DID have a surprise visit to the ER because Joy’s feeding tube came out (again) and factoring in the fact that she was weighed with her onesie and diaper still on, she is estimated to be about 12 pounds!! That puts her just under the 30th% which is another great increase!
During the time her tube was out temporarily, she completed way more of her feeds than she typically does. We suspect the tube is causing her discomfort/irritation while she takes her bottle (not uncommon) which is why she hasn’t been finishing her feeds. We are hopeful that after her surgery, once she gets up to about the 50th% (the feeding team’s goal) we’d be able to graduate from the feeding tube. Please join us in prayer that this is the case!
Other prayer requests for this week: for the insurance pre-authorization to be processed in a timely manner for our pediatric home health nurse.
Thank you all for your generous support and prayers!!
