Picture: Joshua is able to stand with this special equipment at rehab. He said it felt good to be the tallest in the room again and to stand for the first time in 3 months. Do not be deceived - this is a workout for him!
So sorry for how long it's been since I have updated! At this time, Joshua has been back in inpatient rehab but he is coming back home soon.
Rehab was way different this time. He said it was basically bootcamp lol Because he now has his restrictions lifted they were able to do WAY more with him.
We are now trying to figure out what our new "normal" is going to be. This means we are going to need more specialized equipment for him to help him with his rehabilitation.
Up until now, Joshua has spent most of his time in a hospital bed due to the restrictions that have been on him and also lots of pain. This is not something that is good for him to continue doing.
Good news - while at rehab we have been able to detect very slight improvement, but this is still a LONG journey and we have no idea where it is leading us.
I still pray and believe the Lord will heal him and Joshua will walk again, but right now we also have to live in this present reality.
To be honest - reality has been hitting us very hard lately. I think the first 3 months, we were just so thankful Joshua was still alive. Now...the hard, long road is before us and we have no idea where it leads.
All that we have is the Lord to cling to. We know that HE has us in the palm of His hands and knows exactly where this journey is going, and we just have to trust in Him and take it one step at a time.
Here is what we are needing prayers for:
1) Help establishing a good routine when Joshua comes home. He needs to be up and out of bed longer than in it. We also don't want to lose any momentum he has gained while in rehab. Thankfully, Joshua is a very disciplined man so any sort of routine and workout that is established, he will do it.
2) Finding a good outpatient rehab facility that is closer to home where he can continue a good, strong rehab routine.
3) Specific equipment that he needs. He NEEDS an FES bike that helps move his legs to keep blood flow strong and it's also beneficial in many other ways. He also needs the piece of equipment that helps him stand up. This is also crucial to blood flow and making sure his bones in the legs stay strong.
4) A van - believe it or not, we are having a difficult time finding one! Still keep praying for this.
5) We have a lot of bureaucratic stuff to navigate coming up. I cannot get into details, but please pray that this goes well.
6) Joshua is in chronic pain every single day. It is mainly in his lower back right now. He has to push through it constantly in order to do his rehab, workouts, etc. Please pray that we can find a solution to ease this.
7) His weight. Joshua has lost an alarming amount of weight and he NEEDS to gain at least 20lbs back. The weight loss is due to muscle loss, of course, but also because he battles nausea a lot which kills the appetite. Praise the Lord, while he has been in rehab he has had no nausea and he is eating more - probably because they have also been keeping him very active which stimulates appetite. Pray his appetite continues to increase when he comes home.
8) The investigation. It's still ongoing and nothing new has happened. The man who attempted to murder my husband is at least in jail and will remain there with no bond until the trial or a deal is reached.
9) Of course - for complete healing for Joshua. I know statistically speaking, odds are low, but I also have faith that the Lord can heal him and allow him to walk again!
Once again, we thank you for all of your continued support and prayers! And if you're wanting to donate to help us with expenses to cover medical, a new van, and everything else just click on the "view support registry" right below this text!
