Hi Family, Friends, and my beloved support community! It’s my Turkey Day update; I have so much to be thankful for this year.
A MILESTONE BIRTHDAY: THE BIG 6-0!
The first incredible milestone is that on November 12th, I made it to the BIG 6-0! Early on in my battle against leukemia, I wasn't sure this day would be possible. But through immense perseverance, a positive attitude and loving support from everyone, I was able to welcome in what felt like the best birthday of my life!
Alli put together an amazing and wonderful "Life is Good" party for me with some family and healthy friends (no sniffles allowed). She even reached out to the corporate leaders of Life is Good, sharing my story about how I wear one of my 30+ (including several hole-ridden, well-worn and loved!) Life is Good t-shirts to every chemo treatment. The company was amazing and sent us shirts plus gift packages to share.
FINISHING THE 3RD CHEMO TREATMENT HURDLE
Next, on November 15th, I completed my 3rd of 4 chemo cycles—another major hurdle surpassed!
I am extremely fortunate and truly thankful to report that I have had very few side effects from my treatments. Many people with this type of leukemia (APL) suffer terribly from nausea, neuropathy, constant fatigue, and headaches. For avoiding the worst of this, I am deeply grateful.
Looking Ahead: I am now almost two weeks into my off month. When mid-December rolls around, I will be starting what should be my 4TH AND FINAL CHEMO CYCLE! This is monumental—I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. We are approaching the finish line (assuming my bone marrow biopsy is as clear as it was when I left the hospital)!
A Return to Normalcy
For the last two months, our family life has reached a certain sense of normalcy.
- Darrah is absolutely crushing 7th grade and is an honor-roll rockstar!
- Alli and I have figured out how to parent together again! (LOL!)
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your families!
