Home Health Nursing Update

Jonah’s current nursing approval is up at the end of October. Through the Medicaid program he was accepted into due to his lengthy NICU stay, he had been allotted 40 hours per week, which has been nothing short of essential for caring for all of Jonah’s needs and helping him with motor and oral development.

In order to continue receiving nursing hours, we have to apply to the Home Care Waiver program (private insurance rarely pays for many hours, if any at all and most people that need nursing have it funded through Medicaid). This unknown has been such a stressor, but we just got word that Jonah was accepted into the Medicaid Home Care Waiver program! 🙌🏼 This is the first step in continuing his home nursing hours. Next, we will need another person to come out for another assessment to make the final call on hours. The lady I spoke with that did his intake seems confident that Jonah shouldn’t lose any hours, and might actually qualify for more given his diagnoses! This would be such a blessing.

A little education on Medicaid and the home care waiver for those that aren’t in this world (I know I didn’t know anything about this until we were thrown in!):

  • if you’re in the NICU longer than 30 days you’re automatically enrolled in straight Medicaid (regardless of income) for an entire year

  • Once that year is up, you need to apply to something called the Home Care Waiver, which is a part of Medicaid but doesn’t take income into account and doesn’t pay for any other services besides home nursing

If you could please pray that Jonah receives an increase in nursing hours, we would greatly appreciate it!

If you could also vote for him for Baby of the Year that would be so helpful too! We’d use the funds to help with Jonah’s treatments for 2026! Voting is daily and FREE!
