Jenevieve’s Hip Surgery

Today, 7/3/2026, is a BIG day for our sweet Jenevieve! 💚🙏🏼 

 

Today she is having hip guided growth surgery along with adductor and hip flexor muscle lengthening surgery. 

 

This approach is a newer advancement in cerebral palsy care. The goal is to intervene earlier and hopefully prevent more invasive surgeries later in life. 

 

Hip dysplasia is very common in children with CP because they often don’t bear weight the same way, which can prevent the hips from developing properly and increase the risk of dislocation over time. 

 

Our amazing orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Mayfield, has been closely monitoring Jena since she was born. Because her hip dysplasia was minimal, we were able to take a “wait and see” approach while continuing therapies that helped delay the need for surgery. As she’s gotten older, this guided growth procedure has shown incredible promise. Doctors are seeing better long-term outcomes, improved hip development, less spasticity and pain, and an increased chance of walking when it’s done before age six. 

 

In April, we were given the option to try Botox first. We did, and by her DMI intensive in early June we saw some encouraging changes! She was able to dissociate her movements more effectively and seemed much more confident standing, even if only for a few seconds. 🥹 

 

After that, we spent a lot of time praying about what our next step should be. Since I return to work at the end of July, we knew that if surgery was needed, it would have to happen this summer. 

 

Then God started putting all the pieces together. 

 

My husband realized we couldn’t make our usual July beach trip work because of his schedule, so we moved it to June. In eight years, we’ve never vacationed that early. 

 

I booked our Airbnb during the last week of May. Just two days later, we met with Dr. Mayfield for Jena’s follow-up appointment. He strongly recommended surgery this summer and his only available surgery date was July 3rd, just six days after we returned from the beach. 

 

We hadn’t planned any of that. 

 

God already had. 

 

Not only did we get our family beach trip, but we also get to have this surgery before I return to work. Every detail came together in a way only God could orchestrate. 🥹 

 

We don’t know exactly what this next season holds, but we know He does. We believe this surgery is another important step toward Jena’s future, her goals of walking, and ultimately bringing glory to God through her story. 

 

As everything has come together so quickly, we would ask you to prayerfully consider partnering with us. 

 

Our out-of-pocket cost for today’s surgery is approximately $1,700. 

 

Jenevieve also has four DMI intensives scheduled (two this year and two next year). Each intensive requires a $400 deposit and costs $2,300 for the two-week program. Her next intensives are scheduled for September and November. 

 

Looking ahead, one of our biggest goals for next year is pursuing stem cell treatment in Mexico, which is expected to cost $15,000–20,000. We hope to organize benefit events to help make that possible. 

 

We truly couldn’t walk this journey without the incredible village God has surrounded us with.
