Late last night . . . surprise! A shot, like with a needle.
I though my Nurse was putting one over one me when they woke me up and asked if I wanted it in my arm or stomach. I said no how about the IV or Tri-Line it's why I had surgery to put it in. Nope sorry charley this one has to go in the old fashion way so it can help boost your white blood cells slowly over time. Oh, and did we mention you're going to be getting these daily for a while? (To Be Continued)
When my blood work came back early this morning my platelets had dropped to 8. This triggered a automatic IV of blood platelets in the morning to keep me in a safer window. These drops at this time are expected while we wait for the bounce. They could continue intermittently for a week or two until we start to see the new bone marrow start to seed and produce stem cells.
(We pick up our story, already in progress) Then I wait, quietly, patiently, coiled, and ready for my daily MD review. The door opens. The team enters. I LEAP like Kit out of the back of the Sea Duck!
Me: What's with the SHOT? No one said SHOT! They poked me, in the tummy!
(I thing my doctor I think smirked)
MD: Oh, ya that's part of the protocol, didn't I mention it?
Me: NOOOO
MD: It's a small needle.
Me: It's everyday!?
MD: Yup, it's to help your white blood cells build. It has to be administered differently. Not through the blood.
Me: Okay, I get it. (In my brain: !@#$% SHOT!)
I took the second shot this evening, it was not a surprise then. I'm getting over it. Drama over, end scene.
Hope you enjoyed the little script style today. Thank you all for reading.
