Watcha Watchin?

I am going to be laid up for much of the next six months and am taking suggestions for movies and tv.  I'm not in the mood to watch other peoples suffering (unless its also funny!)  My tastes veer toward odd and obscure but I can get sucked into any good story.  For reference shows I love are What We Do in The Shadows, Twin Peaks, Fleabag, The Adventures of Pete and Pete.

Generally looking for light and feel good type films.  I just watched "A Little Prayer" with David Straithern and Jane Levy.  It was a phenomenal character study.

You should watch, if you haven’t already, The Detectorists. It’s hilarious and heartbreaking but in a good way, not a devastating way. If you want to just watch a weird show that’s very well made, Patriot on Prime. Same director as DTF St. Louis, which is also good.

Is it weid that I just fully discovered MST3K? I’ll be watching that a bit. Otherwise it’s Youtube videos about future and current hobbies.

Not lighthearted (disturbing along the lines of Twin Peaks season 3), but "I saw the TV glow" was partially inspired by the adventures of Pete and Pete, and both big and little Pete have a cameo in it. But there's emotional suffering punctuated with moments of hope

I had a lot of free time the last year so here's a good list of TV shows. These are all on different streaming services. FEEL GOOD ish: - Stanley Tucci's ITALY series (2 seasons) and Padma Lakshmi's TASTE THE NATION (Hulu) are the best cooking/travel shows ever. also find HIGH ON THE HOG on netflix. - BEAST GAMES on Amazon is actually quite interesting from a psychology / game theory perspective. - if you can find HAMILTON'S PHARMACOPEIA it is an amazing chem PhD studying psychedelics from an anthropological and chemical perspective... amazing - MAGIC PRANK SHOW on netflix. 100% light / feel good. same for STRIP LAW. - don't miss BEEF or STRIP LAW which are hilarious (both neflix) - DARK WINDS!!! - Tom Segura's BAD THOUGHTS series on netflix is great. - Natasha Lyonne in POKER FACE is great These are not all light or feel good necessarily... - Amazon: INVINCIBLE - so good. THE NIGHT MANAGER series bc you are an unrepentant Anglophile. FALLOUT is hilarious. SCI FI you should not miss! - OUTER RANGE on amazon. - Hulu: ALIEN EARTH is soooooooo creepy good... also Predator PREY and Badlands movies. - Star Trek DISCOVERY and STRANGE NEW WORLDS are the best ST series since original and TNG. - SCAVENGER'S REIGN - best animated scifi ever? - ANCIENT APOCALYPSE on netflix. ok, it needs fact checking (thus "sci fi" LOL), but it's interesting. TRUE LIFE SUX - Tubi conspiracy theory series: WHILE THE REST OF US DIE season 1 only - narrated by Jeffrey Wright. it's all true and quite interesting. - ditto for the WEIGHT OF CHAINS series on Tubi about the breakup of Yugoslavia and the 1990s neoliberal disaster.. if that's your thing. good history lesson. OLDIES - old but essential: if you have never watched Rescue Me or Westworld, you should. but not all at once. - movie trilogy: Koyaanisqatsi, Powaqqatsi, and Naqoyqatsi. watch - or re-watch? - THE WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD is the best foreign film you have not seen (?) - did you ever see MANHUNTER?
