Jade Cato's Recovery
I’ve been a little quiet about what’s going on with Jade, mostly because it’s talking time to get different testing done and giving time to see if numbers will come down when medication is paused.
We had an appointment last Monday (literally on our way to Disney). All 5 of us were packed in tight and Jade’s appointment ended up taking a really long time. Her numbers were still elevated and more testing came in as showing that even with the dose reduction from before it was still too toxic for her liver.
So, they put a complete stop to everything. This includes all oral chemo and all oral antibiotics. They switched her to an IV antibiotics that lasts two weeks, but it runs over an hour or two and definitely made our appointment last longer than expected
The goal of stoping everything is to see if we can get these numbers down. Her liver is clearly very angry.
Her oncology team will know more after our visit tomorrow with the liver specialist and her elastography on Tuesday. On Thursday Jade starts Day one of Maintenance cycle 2. She will get a lumbar puncture and IV chemo. That will also be the day we discuss the finding of the liver studies and ultrasound and determine if Jade will need a liver biopsy.
Please be praying that whatever damage the chemo has caused is reversible and not extensive. Also pray that a new plan can be developed that will be less toxic on her liver but still strong enough to keep the bad cancer cells away permanently.
