Jade Cato's Recovery
know it’s been a while since I’ve done an update. For the better part of the gap in updates, Jade has been doing really well. She’s been doing as much as her body allows and then resting to catch up.
Her treatment is approaching the end (June 25th). That day signifies the last day she will take her oral chemo. It’s the last day of her cancer treatment. However, we know Jade will still be seen and have to have other treatments and procedures due to her body being overloaded with iron and as it can still take months/years for her blood cells to completely rebound she will likely still get IVIG treatments to boost her immune system.
At the beginning of March she fractured her wrist and while that was a bummer, she was having a blast while she was doing it, and we will take these normal kid injuries everyday over the other things our girl has had to face. In mid March she tried out for the middle school cheer team (she was not medically approved last year to tryout and that broke her heart), but this year SHE MADE IT!
The week after that she was scheduled for a lumbar puncture and chemo. This happens on every day 1 of her Maintenance chemo cycles. That was on 3/31. Since that day Jade has been feeling absolutely terrible. She has only left her bed two times (Easter and yesterday). She has pain throughout her entire body that requires strong pain medication to be given around the clock. We have been to the ER, we have been to clinic. No one can really figure out exactly what is going on. We know she had a virus. And that made the CMV (mono like virus) level creep back up, back nothing explains why she is completely bedridden and why it’s going on 11 days now. Yesterday she had a great day and we went nee-doh hunting and I thought she had turned a corner, however last night she was right back in the same pain. She is defeated by this pain and uncomfortableness. She just wants relief and it is so hard to watch her be in pain. I call the doctors constantly and follow the advise and recommendations, but if she has no improvement when she wakes up today we will likely need to go back and recheck everything and get a new plan on how to help manage her pain and figure out what is causing it. Please keep her in your prayers!
