Jazmyne's Promise
After a long week, we finally have clarity. The scan came back clear, and the Karius test shows that a virus is behind everything. It’s the kind of virus that just needs time..typically 5–7 days of fever, rash, loss of appetite, and diarrhea. Jazmyne has had every one of those, but today we’re finally seeing the turnaround.
She’s just 12 hours away from being fever free, and her rash and diarrhea are already improving.
These last four days have been heavy. We’ve had multiple conversations with Infectious Disease (ID), advocating hard for Jazmyne. ID was focused on the immediate moment, but we kept reminding them that we have to think ahead, especially with transplant around the corner. Some of the medications they wanted to use carried potential kidney and liver damage, and we weren’t willing to risk her future for a “just in case” today. Protecting her long term health is part of our assignment as her parents.
One day I spent 45 minutes advocating with ID, and yesterday, once the Karius test confirmed it was a virus, Greg had to spend another 30 minutes pushing to have that harsh medication stopped. It felt like negotiating a hostage situation. But God gives parents the boldness to speak up, and we will always use our voice for our daughter.
Seeing Jazmyne wake up today with an appetite and no fever felt like a refreshing breath straight from Heaven.
Jazmyne had the energy to FaceTime with her friends today…something she’s been too drained to do last week.It made the day feel extra special.
