Jazmyne's Promise
Day 50
We’ve hit the halfway point!!! 🎉 We are 50 days post transplant and 60 days into hospital living. And you know what that means… it’s time to move rooms again. The hospital has a 30-day room policy, so every 30 days we have to pack up all of our personal belongings, move to a new room, and unpack and get settled all over again.
Now that we’ve reached the halfway point, another big change is happening with Jazmyne’s care. Hospital policy for BMT parents now shifts us into training mode. We’re being educated on CVL (central line) care, medication administration, blood draws, proper handling of blood products, and what to do in an emergency, including who to call and which ER to go to.
Even though we are still in the hospital, the parents will now take the lead in Jazmyne’s care while the nurses supervise. This is to ensure that we are fully prepared to care for her once we leave the hospital.
We also have to demonstrate that we can safely manage all of Jazmyne’s medications by following the 5 Rights:
• Right patient
• Right medication
• Right dose
• Right route
• Right time
We will be responsible for cleaning and changing Jazmyne’s central line, drawing her labs, and flushing her lines daily.
Do we get a pass if we already know all of this… maybe a free pass to go home since we already know how to do it? Wish we could just bypass the whole training and check the box.
Part of me wonders if I should tell them now that this might be a little bit of a review for me. 😉
It’s a big step toward bringing Jazmyne home.
