The weekend was uneventful here in the hospital. All the excitement was at home with a skunk situation 🦨😩.
Jazmyne is now neutropenic, which means her body has too few neutrophils—a type of white blood cell that helps fight infections. As long as Jazmyne doesn’t develop a fever, she’s allowed to roam the hospital.

Unfortunately, last night she did spike a fever. Fevers can indicate a possible bacterial infection, which is no bueno when neutropenic. Without enough white blood cells to fight off infection, even a small fever can be serious.

Hospital protocol is to take blood cultures to check for bacterial growth. If after 24 hours there’s no bacteria and no recurring fever, Jazmyne is cleared to roam again. In the meantime, antibacterial medications are started right away, and she must remain in isolation in her room until it’s safe to be out again.

Along with the fever, Jazmyne’s hemoglobin levels were low. (Hemoglobin is the red blood cell component responsible for carrying oxygen to the body’s tissues.) Because of this, Jazmyne received a blood transfusion today.

While receiving her transfusion, she enjoyed school time with her friends via FaceTime—and even turned it into a mini science class by showing them how a blood transfusion works!

We’re praying for no more fevers tonight so that Jazmyne can step out of the room tomorrow. 🙏🏽💖

PRAYER REQUEST:
*no fevers
*no bacteria found in cultures
*Jazmyne spirit be lifted up
*Jazmyne body start rebuilding its levels
