It’s been a little while since our last update, and we wanted to share how things have been going with Harper.

Last Thursday, April 23rd, we headed to the Emergency Department because Harper’s pain was becoming difficult to manage. She was admitted for a paracentesis, and the team was able to drain 1.3L of fluid. After a rough first night, she improved significantly. To stay ahead of the fluid buildup, the surgeons have planned to schedule this procedure  every two weeks.

We had hoped to start outpatient chemo on Monday, April 28th, but Harper’s white blood cell count was unfortunately too low to proceed.

Despite those hurdles, Harper had a wonderful week overall. She has continued to do great in school, even earning a courage award. She also enjoyed visiting with my aunt, cousin, her Aunt Hayli. Finally she had a special surprise visit from her Camp Sunshine buddy, Hyrum!

While we were hoping to make until May 5 for her scheduled paracentesis, her belly distention was so significant last night, we returned to the hospital. She just finished another paracentesis this morning, this time draining 2L and she perked up almost immediately. After getting some blood products we made it home this evening!

Since her counts will likely remain too low for chemo this week, our primary focus continues to be keeping her as comfortable, happy, and supported as possible.
