Now that I’m finishing up my first cycle of chemo, I wanted to give an update. First, THANK YOU. I have received so many kind messages and comments. I’ve also received cards, gift cards, money, and meals from many of you. Of course, I know that many, many prayers have been said. I have not had a moment to even start on thank you notes yet, but please know that these generous and unexpected gifts mean so much to me. They are helping relieve some of the stress and financial burden. And they’re allowing me to start saving my pennies and planning for a big family celebration trip sometime next year. Having that to look forward to is really helping. Most of all, it is just so humbling to receive acts of kindness from so many people, near and far, close friends and acquaintances. So thank you.
This first cycle was a bit of a doozy. It was a shock to the system, and I experienced a couple of really challenging side effects. I am hoping to manage these better in the future. But I ended the cycle with several good days. I went to church on Easter. I went with Sean and Hannah to get her new adaptive bike. I went outside for several walks with the girls. I felt more like myself.
In all, I’m getting by through the kindness of others, grandparents watching the grandbabies, a husband taking night duty, and daily trips to Stars Hollow. Most of all, of course, I have a God who turns graves into gardens, and I’m holding onto that knowledge even when I feel the darkness closing in.
