Hi, friends! It's been a minute, so I thought that I should give an update!
I head in tomorrow for my PET scan. I might get the results next week, but I don't see my doctors until the following week. I am really hoping for the scan to show NED (no evidence of disease). I have some decisions to make about what to do next, so having it show NED will help. I think that I will always be a little nervous heading into every scan, but I am overall optimistic about this one. Even if it doesn't show NED, my prognosis is still good, and I still have options. With the rough chemo behind me, I've been enjoying the last few weeks of feeling more like myself and starting to make plans for the next year. Here's hoping that I can follow through with all of those plans!
The last month or so has felt very busy. I've jumped back into life as it was before all of this (while still dealing with the lingering effects), mostly dealing with Hannah's care. She did receive her autism evaluation, and she did receive the diagnosis officially. We are now in the process of finding the right support for her. Of course, resources are slim where we live. We're keeping at it, but it's not easy.
She also had her annual evaluation for her visual impairment. She showed some improvement, which was a pleasant surprise. She has moved from Phase 1 to Phase 2, so this will change some of the strategies that we use to help her. On a related note, her beloved TVI (teacher for the visually impaired) was reassigned to a different geographic area. I'm sure that the new TVI will be just as lovely, but Hannah really connected with the previous TVI, and we will miss her. In general, we find that the TVIs and those focused on her visual impairment are the ones who understand her best and have the most tools in their toolbelt to help her.
On *another* related note, Hannah is back at school two afternoons a week. We opted for another year of preschool, and we're happy about that, but we wish that there was the option to have more days or longer days. She does well at school and seems to enjoy it, but she could use more support. Once again, options in our area are very slim, and it is unfortunate. There is need here, and it's not just Hannah. We do like her class, though. There are 3-4 other students in the class, all with multiple disabilities. The teacher, therapists, and aides are all wonderful.
We're still waiting to hear back if she qualifies for a stem cell study. We submitted all of the medical records, and we're hoping to hear back soon. I'll share more details if it becomes a reality. We're hopeful that it could be beneficial to Hannah.
We're also working to reschedule her intensive PT camp that we were supposed to do in June. We're so grateful that they are allowing us to reschedule - now we just need to stay healthy so that we can make it happen!
With all of that in mind, please pray:
1. For NED on my PET
2. For clarity on decisions going forward
3. That we would be spared from many illnesses as we head into cold and flu season.
4. That we can find the right support person for Hannah.
5. That doors would open for Hannah to receive the care, therapies, and education that she needs.
Thank you! More soon, I hope!
Photo is from a date night when Sean and I managed to sneak away. I don't eat gluten, so Sean got both fortune cookies, but I claimed this fortune as my own. :) (If you can't read it, it says, "You will enjoy excellent health for many years to come.")
