Update
On Tuesday, November 12th, GTH had an extensive panel of bloodwork completed. The following day,
Wednesday, November 13th, his doctor contacted me with encouraging news: his cancer markers had
decreased between the panels drawn on 10/3 and again on 11/3.
Then on Friday, November 14th, GTH developed a fever—believed to be a positive indication that his
immune system was responding. The fever stayed mild over the next few days, during which he
experienced some slurring and what seemed to be fever-related dreams.
However, on Wednesday, November 19th—while we were on our way to Ft. Myers for therapy—I
received difficult news. His labs showed that multiple blood markers, including his hemoglobin, were
extremely low and in a dangerous range. We were instructed to bring him to the Children’s Hospital
immediately for a transfusion. That evening, GTH received two bags of blood, and we made the
3.5-hour drive home in the middle of the night.
It has now been a few days, and while we remain hopeful, he hasn’t shown much improvement yet. He
is very weak, sleeping a great deal, and still struggling with several basic functions. Even so, he is
eating, drinking, and doing his absolute best in every way he can.
This has been hard, especially coming right after such encouraging news. I’m hoping to return to his
regular treatment schedule soon, but we may need to pause for a little while—he simply isn’t strong
enough to travel at the moment.
Your prayers are deeply appreciated.
