Gretchen was discharged from Dell-Seton today and taken to Texas Neuro Rehab for the next phase in her recovery.  The amount of progress she has made in a week's time left her care team amazed, because that first night in the hospital she lost all use of her right limbs.  She has since recovered movement and feeling in both, despite feeling constant pins and needles and muscle pain.  She likes to say, "Pain is feeling, and feeling is good," and ever the Disney girl, she refers to that side of her body as "Rory/Aurora"--aka "Sleeping Beauty."   Her care team at Dell-Seton stated that significant movement/strength in the first 2-4 weeks is an excellent indicator of recovery, and for that we are hopeful.

The next two weeks or so, here at Texas Neuro Rehab will bring intense physical and occupational therapy that will allow her to return home to her family.  However, she will continue to need outpatient therapy after she leaves here. Her doctors at Dell-Seton will continue to monitor her progress, the state of her arterial tear, and the blood clot as it eventually dissolves.

We are continually amazed at her progress, and at the same time, humbled by her positive outlook, determination, and the quiet kindness she shows the nurses, techs, housekeeping--really anyone she encounters who contributes to her comfort and care.
