Hey friends! I wish you were all here and we could just sit around the kitchen table and talk in person. But for now, this seems to be the best way to update you all. Thanks for your prayers.
Michelle did a wonderful job designing and overseeing the completion of the T-shirt project we did as a fund raiser for The Preston Robert Tisch Brain Center's non-profit, "Angels Among Us." We were able to make a contribution from your gifts through these, "Team G" t-shirts.
At the end of April, our family along with other dear friends participated in the 5K in Durham. There were over 4000 in attendance, 1700 runners, and beautiful survivors of some form of brain cancer. It was incredibly encouraging to speak with survivors and their families of their healing and long term survivorship.
(Congratulations to our son, Drew who placed 3rd in his age category...and of the 1700 participants...he placed 16th and our son-in- law, Alan wasn't far behind. My mom and I waited at the finish line for our team. From our grandchildren and friends (with one who was too young to walk) everyone completed the 5K wearing their "Team G" t-shirts.
The Docs seem very pleased with my progress and are shyly admitting that they are surprised and don't have a medical explanation for my "wellness". Before we left Florida, one doctor even walked into the exam room where I was and locked his eyes with mine and said, "What are you doing here?" I was able to answer him by explaining that I have A GREAT PHYSICIAN who is in charge of my healing and recovery. While our oncologist here is South Carolina said this week, "based on your diagnosis there is only ONE explanation for your "survivorship" status...THE ALMIGHTY LORD!"
Physical Therapy is one of my highlights, going twice a week and loving it.. The team there is super encouraging and I am loving the ministry opportunities that are provided there! My hope and goal is to regain balance, strength, and stamina. Three things I am lacking right now.
Recovery has given us some good time together. Joannie and I are constantly discovering "open doors" of ministry. These open doors are God-moments that HE puts in front of us to live out 1st Peter 3:15.
The verse tells us that people will wonder how we have such a joy and peace in the midst of our trial... and we must be ready to share with them! It's so true, when folks find out I have Brain tumors it gives me an excellent opportunity to Praise our GREAT PHYSICIAN !
That's it for now. Love you all!
