Epilepsy

I thought I would share a little about Grasley’s epilepsy journey. Grasley was diagnosed with epilepsy at just 10 months old. She was so tiny and cute then… and still is! When she was born, doctors told us that because of her brain condition there was a possibility she could develop epilepsy, and if she did, it could potentially be life-threatening. For the first 10 months of her life we were so thankful that she hadn’t had any seizures. Then on Easter Sunday everything changed and she was diagnosed with epilepsy.

We were grateful that medication helped manage it for a while, but about a year later the seizures returned and meds alone weren’t enough. That’s when we started the ketogenic diet, and for the last year and a half it has worked incredibly well for her. Then two weeks ago the seizures returned again. Some were new, and as of yesterday her old ones have started coming back too. We are working hard to manage her ketones and medications, but something just isn’t quite right.

Our next step is traveling to UCLA for additional specialized testing to help us understand what’s going on. We would be so grateful if you would keep our sweet girl in your prayers — for wisdom for the doctors, for the right treatment plan, and most of all for protection over her little brain and body.
