Hello all,
It has been some time since my last update the day before Glen's Bone Marrow Transplant. I can now safely say that the bone marrow transplant was a success!!! Glen is engrafted, that means that his body is now regenerating its own cells with the help of the cells he received from me!
These last few weeks have been some of the hardest we've experienced. Watching my baby deal with the effects of chemo, radiation, graft versus host disease, and engraftment syndrome have been gut wrenching. It's been such a somber experience to see what is means for a child's body to have to rebuild an entire new immune system. The stress that it puts on their little bodies is incredible. Glen has had a mix of good and bad days throughout this. When he has good days, he's chatty, playful, silly, and ready to get to the playroom. On his bad days, he is quiet, cranky, and very open about how much he wants to go home - who can blame him. Glen has enjoyed all his new toys, FaceTime with family, seeing pictures and videos of his cats and dog, and lots of Paw Patrol. Although he has been through the ringer, he has remained the sweetest, silliest, most truck loving boy I have had the pleasure of being around.
We continue to be so grateful to our support system. I go back to work at the end of this month, which will be another difficult step in all of this as well, but will give me some normalcy that I crave. I hope that we will be able to start coming up with a better idea of when Glen will be discharged in the next couple of weeks. Thank you for all of you that have given your time, thoughts, prayers, and sent donations to help during this time. I am so grateful for the support.
