I met with an infectious disease doctor yesterday. My blood is filled with bacteria so I have Sepsis. It took a while for lab results to help determine the best treatment, but now they have a plan. The doctor said this resulted from my complete lack of white blood cells after my latest round of chemo. The white blood cells help keep bacteria out of the blood. My hemoglobin dropped again so another transfusion is needed and in progress. Last night was full of activity with very specific treatments and testing that needed to be done at scheduled times. Blood cultures were drawn earlier and they should show if the Sepsis is improving. Results may take a while. I am receiving good care and trust I will be on the other side of this in the not too distant future!
