Steps toward healing

Hi everyone.
Firstly, we are beyond grateful for the generosity we have been shown through messages checking in, prayers, offers to help, and donations. The words "thank you" don't feel like a strong enough sentiment for how much we appreciate you all.

We want to share an update regarding Dad's recovery journey following his stroke.

To help him breathe more comfortably and to allow his body and his brain the time it needs to heal, his care team will place a tracheostomy.Β

This decision has been extremely difficult to make, but Dad continues to show that he is a fighter. He responds to our voice, our touch, communicates however he can. He can follow commands and answer simple questions. He was even up for a quick arm wrestle with me the other day. Don't worry, he won.

This procedure will relieve some of the strain his body is facing so that he can pour all of his energy into healing and getting stronger so that he can carry on slinging his (sometimes terrible) jokes that we all love.

This means that his road to recovery will be a long one. Expenses will be great, but we are committed to remaining by his side and doing whatever we need to do to take the best care of him possible.

Again we thank everyone for their kind words, thoughts and prayers, encouragement, and support.
