What a word! Photobiomodulation is also known as low level light therapy. We have just completed 10 weeks of light therapy. Mom gets to administer the light prior to a visit where we work on integrating reflexes, but that's a story for a different day.
What does this do for Everett? Photobiomodulation uses different frequencies of red light and near infrared light. The light frequencies affect the mitochondria in cells which in a chain reaction affects the energy in cells. This can help with reducing inflammation, healing and enhance cognition. Paired with other therapies we hope this helps to create new pathways that were lost with the injury.
We apply the light to the left frontal lobe and the right cerebellum for 5 minutes each. These areas were determined by our friend Dr. Smith due to the location on the injury and where his examination indicated the most delay. Most of the time mom has to juggle holding Ev and the light, but some days we get to lay down and play with toys.
We have also incorporated red light therapy at home with our own Lumebox. We are trying to do everything in our power to aid in each small improvement. We ask for prayers for Everett. We are hoping to see some of these early milestones be met in the near future. Thank you for all of the love and support!
