Next month we will be traveling to Mexico for stem cell therapy!! This has been a long awaited treatment for Finn but we finally feel like it’s time to move forward.
After much research we have chosen to use Dezawa MUSE cells. The studies and personal testimonies coming from treatment with MUSE cells are really promising for kids like Finn.
There are so many fascinating details about MUSE cells and the way they work but here is a quick overview!
MUSE cells are multilineage-differentiating stress-enduring cells. They are naturally found in the human body. A few reasons we chose these:
- Safety - they are non tumorigenic. They divide slowly and do not form tumors when transplanted.
- They are stress resistant and can survive in areas of low oxygen and inflammation.

- They differentiate into the cell that the body needs and can turn into almost any cell in the human body.
- They are “programmed” to find the injured areas of the body. Our bodies release a signaling molecule in areas of inflammation/damage and MUSE cells specifically locate that signal and target those cells for regeneration. Amazing huh?
So when the body is injured, Muse cells remain active. They travel through the bloodstream, settle in the damaged area, and help repair by becoming the needed cells or by calming inflammation!
There are minor reactions that can happen but overall it is very low risk. Obviously our desire is for these stem cells to target Finn’s damaged brain tissue to work on creating healthier cells and pathways for progress to continue and increase!
We don’t have any specific expectations but are hopeful and excited to see how he responds to this treatment!!
Cost breakdown:
$14,800 for the stem cells, plus a lot of additional therapies for the whole time we are there!
$3200 in flights (we are going as a family this time. We have left the girls behind every time we have traveled for therapy and it’s important to us that they get to be a part) - American Airlines miles would help with this a lot!
$1200 Airbnb
Aside from missed work these are the biggest costs for this trip and treatment. We are grateful for every bit of support.
