Hi guys! It has been a while since I have made an update here. After HBOT and our functional neurology intensive we turned our focus to our routine at home and weekly therapies. Finn has continued to get so much stronger and show us more of what he can do! His head control is continuing to improve and he really loves when we help him in a supported sitting position and any toys that rattle or make noise. He also loves music and we have found THE song that gets his attention almost every time. It's pretty sweet to watch.
Overall we are still dealing with a lot of fussiness and discomfort. This is definitely an area that we are constantly working to improve as it not only affects normal daily life but his ability to tolerate and progress in therapy. There are a few reasons we feel like he is struggling more right now and areas we need prayer:
Medication weaning - Right now we are working on our final medication wean and are over 75% of the way there. This one has been a doozy and really hard on his nervous system. We have taken it slow but it just takes a lot of time for him to learn a new normal without it. The medicine was not really helping him with its intended purpose and the side effects were absolutely not worth it. We have had a lot of support from our providers through this and we are doing everything we can to support Finn's body. It is hard right now but will be a huge win to accomplish this!
Gut imbalances - Thankfully with some diet changes for me back in November his constipation completely resolved. That really helped him a ton. He was still having some signs of discomfort and gut issues though so we ran a gut test on him. We discovered his candida levels were really high. We are in the process of treating this but it definitely explains why he is having tummy sensitivities! This treatment is also a slowww process!
Teething - I feel like he has been teething non stop since November. As soon as a tooth erupts and he gets relief it seems like the process starts all over again. He has 3 more teeth working their way in right now which will put him at 8 teeth so far... our girls had like one tooth by the time they were one so this is new for me!!
Speaking of which... Finn's first birthday is only 9 days away! I can't believe it. There are so many mixed emotions around this milestone but most of all I am full of gratefulness that our sweet boy is here with us for us to celebrate!
We already have a lot lined up for this year but mama's tired so I will save that for the next update 💛
