Ethan’s face has already grown healthy new skin, and the doctors expect minimal scarring! 🙏🏽
The free flap is healing with strong blood flow through both the artery and vein! 🙌🏽
The free flap is healing with strong blood flow through both the artery and vein! 🙌🏽
And after dropping to almost zero movement following surgery…his fingers and thumb are moving again! 🙌🏽
Yesterday I held off on updating because although the flap looked great, Ethan wasn’t moving his fingers. I drove home in silence and simply prayed:
Jesus, I know You didn’t bring us this far to leave us here.
Fast forward to this morning I rode the elevator up with one of plastic surgeon’s on Ethan’s team, we walked into his room, and after checking the flap, the doctor asked Ethan to move his fingers.
One by one…they moved! Then his thumb!!! Tiny twitches, but I’ll take it!!
Praise God!!! Ethan’s trademark crooked smile turned into his big million dollar smile!!
For a few hours, we were celebrating the possibility of discharge and the incredible progress God has already made.
Then the day took an unexpected turn.
One of the afternoon Dr’s shared concerns about Ethan’s arm and hardware and explained that discharge may be delayed another 3–4 days. He also cautioned that therapy may not begin as soon as we hoped and couldn’t offer much encouragement about when Ethan might play the trombone again.
As you can imagine, that was hard for Ethan to hear. He started breaking down and couldn’t contain his sobbing.
He fell asleep shortly after that and while he was asleep I asked another physician about her thoughts. She reminded me that these precautions are exactly that, precautions. Protecting the flap is the priority. Additional testing and a new splint doesn’t necessarily change Ethan’s overall recovery, and they still believe he has an excellent chance of rehabilitating to the point of holding and playing his instrument. 🙏🏽
So today, we’re choosing to stand on what God has already done instead of fearing what we don’t yet know!!
The facts may change from doctor to doctor and day to day.
But GOD has not changed.
Please continue praying for complete healing of Ethan’s arm, full function of his hand and thumb, continued healing of his face, wisdom for his medical team, and encouragement for Ethan’s heart!!
And one more prayer…
Ethan is convinced he’s going to play his trombone and start school on time.
So we’re believing for that too.
Thank you for every prayer, every message, every donation, every tear, and every time you’ve gone before the Father on Ethan’s behalf. We see God moving every single day, and we know He’s not finished yet.
To God be ALL the glory. 💙🙌🏽
