Our God is a Healer and ETHAN is HOME

PRAISE REPORT!

Our God is a Healer… and I will never get tired of praising HIM!! 

It was exactly two weeks ago that Ethan was rushed by ambulance through the doors of Memorial Hermann Children’s Hospital and today we are rejoicing because God has given my brave boy exactly what he needs to now continue his healing journey back home… Ethan is home!! 

Next week he’ll continue his weekly/bi-weekly appointments with Orthopedics, Plastic Surgery, and Wound Care. After those appointments, we’ll begin learning what his rehabilitation plan will look like through PT and OT, including how often he’ll need therapy and the path toward restoring as much function as possible to his hand.

As you know because Ethan’s injuries to his left arm were extensive and because he suffered damage to tendons, nerves, blood vessels, and fractures that required the free flap reconstruction to save his arm it is now critical that his therapist be a Certified Hand Therapist which will require extensive therapies to get those remaining tendons functioning again! 

A special thank you to my dear friend who arranged for a PM&R consultation before we left the hospital. That physician reassured us that we’re on the right track and believes Ethan has every reason to work toward regaining function, including the possibility of playing his trombone again one day!!  

Before we were discharged, Dr. McCarty stopped by to perform another sensation test on Ethan’s fingers. Just seven days earlier, immediately after surgery, Ethan’s sensation was essentially 0 out of 10. By the time we were discharged, after repeating the exact same test, his sensation had already improved to 6 out of 10!

Dr. McCarty told us that kind of improvement this early after surgery is an incredibly encouraging sign and not something he typically sees this early on.

BUT GOD!!! 🙌🏽💙

We know there is still a road ahead, and we know we may not know what every twist or turn will bring. BUT we do know who our Shepherd is! We do know who the Waymaker is! He’s the only One who can turn our twists into testimonies, our impossibilities into possibilities, and make a way where there seems to be no way.

I ask you to continue praying that God would go before us. Pray that He would order every one of Ethan’s steps, reveal what we need to know when we need to know it, and give us wisdom for every decision along the way. Pray that when the road bends, He would steady our feet. When we face uncertainty, He would replace it with peace. And if there are twists ahead that we cannot yet see, pray that our Shepherd faithfully guides us through every single one of them.

We don’t have to know what’s around the next turn  because we know the One who does. And that’s enough. More than enough!!

 Thank you for sitting with us, crying with us, and helping wipe away our tears.
 Thank you for welcoming Caleb and Syd into your daily routines so we can continue to pour into Ethan’s healing 

Thank you for loving our family so much! 

A dear friend told me something in those first few days that has stayed with me: “I hope you know how deeply this community loves you and your family, and how hard we’re praying for y’all and Ethan.”

I want each of you to know… we truly feel it and we don’t take it for granted. We love you all more than words could ever express! 

Everything you’ve done   has been a reminder that we are not walking this road alone!!!
